Week 10

Christmas was this week and there was a lot going on. Family was coming into town, I had to finish my shopping and I cooked Christmas dinner at my house. I'm fortunate that I have 2 weeks off so I'm able to catch up on my napping. I felt the same this week as last. I'm having to eat so often through out the day. My body is craving carbs! It seems I'm eating 3 bowls of cereal everyday. On Friday, I went to bed at 7:45 and woke up at 12:00pm and 4:00am to eat! I have to stay full or I start feeling sick. I noticed this week that I started to get some headaches in the evenings. I had to take Tylenol one night because it just wouldn't start hurting. I try hard not to put any chemicals in my body unless its necessary. I have to say, I went to the gym one day this week and I felt awesome during the day. After the gym I had a big lunch and was able to dare the mall for a couple of hours. I came home, rested for an hour and felt well enough to go to dinner with my hubby. That was the best I've felt, in the evening, in a long time. Maybe exercising is the key! Before I was pregnant, I always knew I'd be the type of person who would eat healthy and work out through my pregnancy. I've been training for triathlons for the past 2 years so it should be a normal activity for me. Well, its such a different story now that I'm feeling so tired and sick in the evenings. Hopefully, as I enter into the second trimester in the month of January, I'll get back on a routine. I should feel less tired and sick...or so they say!

Week 9

Oh baby, this week was by far the most challenging! It started last Monday when I couldn't get enough to eat! I ate pizza three times that day. It was the first time I noticed that I got a little nauseous if my belly was hungry. On Tuesday, I got sick at lunch time. I continued for the rest of the week with same pattern. I felt great in the morning but slowly went "downhill" as the day went on . I pretty much got sick once or twice a day. On Thursday, I bought the sea bands that all of my prego friends are wearing. They go on your wrists and press on a pressure point that is supposed to reduce nauseousness. I don't know if they work but I'm sure wearing them all the time! I definitely felt better on Friday and Saturday because I didn't get sick on either day. Oh, did I mention how tired I am? Ha! I went to bed by 7:00pm, three nights this week. No kidding, I slept for 12 hours and it felt great!
This week I also switched to Cape Fear OBGYN. A friend at one of my schools highly recommended one of the doctors at this practice. I'm really excited to see them because they are all female doctors. I had contemplated who I was going to see and really had some fears about going to any place where I would rotate through numerous doctors and never really develop any personal relationship with them. At Cape Fear, there are only 3 doctors. I have my first appointment with them on January 7th. I can't wait!

Week 8

We were anticipating this week because we had our first doctors appointment on December 17 at 9:00am. Tim and I met at Azalea OBGYN and were taken upstairs to the ultra sound room. For the first time, we were able to see the baby on the screen. We saw the little heart pumping really fast. I think she said it was beating 162 beats per minute. It was fascinating! Tim and I both teared up a little because we just couldn't believe we could see the baby. The baby is an inch long, is losing the tadpole tail and forming little buds for arms and legs. We heard the heart beating too! The lab lady printed out 2 pictures for us to keep. It was incredible.
I just can't believe I'm actually at this place in my life. I feel like I've waited so long to have a baby and now its inside my belly. The ultra sound really helped to relieve my fears of not being pregnant. I still have very few symptoms which cause me to question my pregnancy. There's no question about it now! After the lady took some blood and urine samples we were free to go. I was surprised that no one took my weight...since I've put on a few pounds! Tim and I went to eat a quick breakfast before heading back to work.
This was definitely the high light of our week. Time has practically stood still since we first found out we were pregnant! Oh, and Mrs. Lewis let me borrow some maternity clothes since my jeans are too tight. I'm fortunate to have a wonderful support system of friends and family who are helping me along the way. I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Weeks 1-7

My husband and I married on June 13, 2009. We didn't "officially" start trying to get pregnant until after July. We were going to wait until after November when I was signed up for a 1/2 Ironman. However, I've had a knee injury that has interfered with my training causing me to be unable to run. So, we decided to start trying!
My race was on November 7th, 2009. I took a pregnancy test the night before but it was negative. I took another test the next Tuesday and it was negative too. I really wasn't feeling pregnant, certainly not according to all of the symptoms I had read online. I decided to take another test on Thursday at Rite Aid...and it was positive! I ended up taking 4 tests total just to make sure I really was pregnant. I didn't have any symptoms and really felt like it wasn't real!
I bought a baby bib that said "I love Daddy" and place it in a bag for my husband. When he first opened it, he didn't understand what was going on. All the sudden, the reality hits him and he starts sweating!! I was able to record it on film to show our child when they are older. In fact, I was able to record all the parents as well. I plan on making a CD for my baby album.
I've slowly told close friends and coworkers. I was going to wait until week 8, when we have our first ultra sound but the rumors were swirling and people were asking me at school. Its funny how good news travels fast!
I really haven't had many symptoms at all. I've been a little queasy but not completely nauseous. I've noticed small changes in my body but they are very minor. I'm excited about the ultra sound next week so we can finally see the little bean. Its really hard to believe until you see it. My husband and I are just super excited to finally be at this place in our lives. Stay tuned!
